Baptisms:
Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:13-14)
Baptisms are wonderful celebrations – the door to the Church and the other sacraments. Parents requesting Baptism for their children need to make a commitment to bring up the child in the faith of the Church. Baptisms are generally celebrated during the 9:00am Mass on the third Sunday of the month. Parents/guardians are required to attend a Baptism Information Evening which is held once a month at 7:00pm on a Friday or another suitable time can also be arranged. The normal place for a Baptism is your local Parish. However, if you wish to have a Baptism at Our Lady of Lourdes, permission from your local Parish Priest is required. If you would like to have your child baptised please contact the Parish office to enquire about Baptism preparation or register at the News/Parish Events page. If you have not received a confirmation email within 30 minutes, please contact our Parish office.
Who can be a godparent?
One godparent must be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has received the Eucharist, and who lives a life worthy of the role that he or she is about to undertake. It is possible to have just the one godparent. However as long as one godparent is Catholic, it is permissible for a non-Catholic Christian to act as witness to your child’s Baptism. It is not possible for an unbaptized person to act as godparent or Christian witness.
Adults seeking Baptism would generally take part in the Parish RCIA program.
